ABSTRACT
The main goal in operating a facility that offers UV therapy is to provide safe and effective treatment. This can be achieved by a physician who understands the treatment, working with staff who know how to deliver the treatments, and using equipment that is safe and reliable. Perhaps it is a reflection on the state of medicine, but certainly we must add a second goal in operating a facility and that is to make it financially viable. The number of physicians offering phototherapy in the United States plunged during the 1990s as costs rose and reimbursement rates stagnated. Therefore, decisions about which treatment to offer and how to charge for them must be based on sound financial decisions.
