ABSTRACT

There has been marked interest in the past few years in the therapeutic potential of UVA-1 (340-400 nm) radiation with lots of reports of benefit in a variety of diseases. Most of the reports have been from Europe where a few centers have metal halide devices capable of generating high irradiances, which are necessary to keep treatment times at a reasonable level. Controlled studies have been conducted in a few diseases such as atopic eczema, scleroderma, and lupus erythematosus but in other conditions there are mainly case reports or small series.
