ABSTRACT
There remain no studies which specifically look at the routine use of CPAP/ BiPAP in the post-operative period for preventing respiratory compromise in children. The closest to this was the study by Rosen et al. (17) which reported on the use of CPAP in five of their patients during the post-operative period. These authors observed that the post-operative course in these five patients was without incident, and they subsequently proposed that CPAP may have a role in preventing postoperative airway complications in the pediatric population. A randomized trial of CPAP following surgery for OSA, vs. surgery alone would better address the indications and utility of CPAP in the post-operative pediatric patient.
