ABSTRACT

The role of radiotherapy (RT) for endometrial carcinoma has evolved over the course of many years, from being the mainstay of treatment before the era of modern surgical techniques to an adjunctive to surgery based on the presence of adverse prognostic factors. The need to tailor the indication for RT to prognostic factors became increasingly clear when many authors recognized the disadvantages in terms of morbidity of possible overtreatment for the large majority of low-risk endometrial cancers. In Chapter 9 an overview of the indications for RT and standards of treatment has been given. In this chapter the current developments and major controversies are discussed, which are relevant to future perspectives in the treatment of endometrial cancer.
