ABSTRACT

Tissue adhesives are materials that are designed to polymerize upon application. Biological tissue adhesives, also referred to as tissue sealants and glues, have been used as adjunct therapies to promote wound healing since the 1900s. Over the years, they have been used for a variety of surgical applications including hemostasis, tissue welding, grafting, and sealing. More recently, tissue adhesives have been used as topical delivery systems for growth factors (1,2), cell lines (3), and as liquid occlusive dressings to cover open superficial wounds (4,5).
