ABSTRACT

Information security is a generic term including all measures against unauthorized use of computer networks and individual workstations and against the destruction or distortion of computer files. In a narrower sense, information security often refers to the protection of computer networks against intrusion and abuse, and information assurance to guaranteeing the authenticity of computer files. In the few years, information assurance and security (IAS) has evolved from a narrow specialization in computer science to a multidisciplinary field comprising philosophers (ethics), psychology (human factors in computer use), sociology (forensics), political science (counter-terrorism), management (risk, e-commerce), linguistics (special measures for protecting natural language files), communication (supervision and privacy), and several other domains.
