ABSTRACT

The need to improve safety levels and to control risk is essential in modern complex systems and can be achieved principally by operating on the human factors (HF) associated with the design, operations, and emergency management. This statement is nowadays widely accepted by almost all stakeholders of technology, from end users to providers and regulatory bodies. Two major factors play an important role on the ways in which HF contribute to the design and assessment of safety measures: the use of automation and the impact of human errors.
