ABSTRACT
The Japan Ergonomics Society (JES) was established in 1964 with 530 founding members drawn from many disciplines. The society had the aim of promoting ergonomics research and application and fostering active collaboration of its members with industry and consumers. The society soon joined the International Ergonomics Association and its membership grew to over 1000 in early 1966. The society has evolved steadily reflecting the increasing interest in human-centred ergonomic design of work, products, systems and environments.
