ABSTRACT

In this chapter, theory of participatory ergonomics as well as four case studies in the construction industry are presented.

Much research is done on participatory ergonomics and participatory projects are performed in many areas of industry. These projects shed light on the practice of participatory ergonomics (e.g. Garmer et al. 1995; Moore and Garg 1996). However, the effects of participation are not known. This chapter seeks to find factors within a participatory ergonomics approach that influence the adoption of participatory developed innovations. The exploration of participatory innovation starts with a search for an appropriate definition.
