ABSTRACT
The War of the Ghosts, to find out what exactly people remembered after they had read an unfamiliar piece of prose. He found that his western readers were adapting the story to fit with their existing knowledge and it was this that they would remember when asked questions about the text. For example, participants revised the plot of the folk tale so that it resembled a story based on western culture. These findings led Bartlett to develop the concept of “schema”; we do not remember an exact replica of events, but rather reconstruct them according to our cultural/historical background and experiences when we need to remember them. This significant finding helped psychologists understand how newly learned information is organized in our memories.
