ABSTRACT

Pulmonary hypertension is a frequent complication of chronic obstructive pulmonary

disease (COPD). Its presence is associated with shorter survival, more frequent

exacerbation episodes, and greater need of health resources. At present, there is no

specific and effective treatment for this condition in COPD. However, recent advances

in the understanding of the pathobiology of pulmonary hypertensive states, along with

the development of effective treatments for pulmonary arterial hypertension, have

opened a new perspective that might be relevant in COPD.
