ABSTRACT
This chapter sketches some of the attributes of three very different real-time systems and some of the considerations for their designs. One system records and indicates the available spaces in a car parking garage. Another is a data-acquisition system that collects biological data. The third application is a gun-fuzing system for the military. Each of these systems requires attention to architecture, component
selection, power supply and distribution, software development, packaging, manufacturing, installation, and maintenance. Each system addresses the design process differently from the other two.
