ABSTRACT

The aim of this work is to show the possibility of using in a beneficial way the multi-agent system (MAS) theory in the analysis and study of home automation systems. The problem of conceiving and developing efficient systems for home automation presents several difficult aspects, due to a number of factors that, all together, generate complexity. In dealing with home automation, in particular, one has to consider distributed control structures, hybrid time-driven/event-driven behaviors, interoperability between components of different brands, and requirements of safe and efficient interaction with

human users, to mention only some of the characteristics that make this area interesting and challenging.
