ABSTRACT

Most manufacturers of foodstuffs in the United States, Canada, and Western Europe are bound by standards for food safety and hygiene. These are promulgated by international, national, and local governmental bodies and dictate to manufacturers the safety measures that they must take to produce a product safe for human consumption. Unfortunately, not all companies, even in these more regulated countries-and especially in developing countries, produce products that are hygienically safe. In such cases the federal government outlines some legal assurances that companies can obtain from suppliers in the form of a continuing food guarantee.
