ABSTRACT
The NM department is a very active place. Each day, as many as 500 mCi (18.5 GBq) of various radiopharmaceuticals are used in NM imaging procedures on some 50 patients. All those procedures must be done in a timely way while, at the same time, maintaining radiation safety. All staff members, physicians, technologists, and radiopharmacists must keep close attention to each step of every procedure to ensure the safety of the staff, patients, and visitors. First and foremost, they are their own safety officers because they must ensure their own safety in every task they perform, and second, they must ensure the safety of others.
