ABSTRACT

Ever since human beings developed a perception of time and space, they started to wonder about their purpose in life, and the notion of the afterlife became omnipresent. This idea of the niteness of life, or rather the innity of time, coupled with the desire for purpose and security gave rise to the earliest religious communities. Different cultures and religions arose, with different beliefs regarding the afterlife. One common aspect of most of these early religions was the reverence of ancestors and the deceased in general.
