ABSTRACT
This chapter touches on certain basic subjects that are necessary tools of the cost
engineer. Many of the topics that are described only briefly are treated later in
somewhat greater detail; hence brief treatment of a topic in this chapter does
not necessarily indicate that the particular topic is not an essential subject for
further study. Chapter 1 is a rather thorough overview of cost engineering as a
whole and is meant to be a foundation for the chapters that follow.
