ABSTRACT

Interactive Multimedia (IM) has been used as an educational and interpretive tool in the museum environment for the last 30 years. Using a diverse array of technologies and approaches cherry-picked from a variety of sources such as the video-gaming and educational software industries, IM provides an alternative and progressive method to engage and teach audiences about a museum’s collection. This entry discusses the technology, design and trends in the field of computer IM specifically in the museum environment.
