ABSTRACT

The American Society for Information Science and Technology (ASIST) was founded as the American Documentation Institute in 1937. In response to the evolution of the field, the society has grown and changed its structure and focus. This entry describes the Society’s history, purpose, structure (regional chapters plus topical special interest groups), governance, meetings, and publications.
