ABSTRACT

A circumstance that has greatly impacted library services in the United States has been the increased presence of ethnically and linguistically diverse user populations. Central in this development is the Latino community, now the largest minority group in the nation. This entry provides a historical overview of the development of library and information services to the Latino community and the development of Latinos as library professionals. It highlights key policies, initiatives, organizations, and leaders who were instrumental in the development of services to this community and in the recruitment of Latinos to the profession.
