ABSTRACT

ORCID is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing an open registry of unique person identifiers for researchers, and to working collaboratively with the research community to embed these identifiers in research workflows to connect researchers and research. Together, the registry and embedding of identifiers supports discoverability and ensures that researchers get credit for their work. Here we describe the founding of the organization, the workings of the Registry, and how the community is using and embedding ORCID identifiers in research workflows and systems.
