ABSTRACT

The standardization organizations are working on designing layered architecture for Internet of Things (IoT). This chapter describes the standards that aid the realization of IoT and maintenance of security and privacy of IoT networks. It discusses the scenario of security and trust management in IoT by analyzing existing works and taxonomies of security schemes and checking their compatibility with the existing IoT applications. Internet Eng. Task Force (IETF) has formed various groups with the task of developing protocols for IoT networks considering the storage and computation constraints of the devices. The security of IoT networks should be addressed by the communication protocols used at each layer rather than the application of external security models. IETF work groups are currently developing Constrained Application Protocol for application-layer communication. It will also ensure interoperability in case of communication between heterogeneous networks or devices. Protocols and architectures are being developed in order to extend Internet technologies for low-cost devices.
