ABSTRACT

This chapter starts with a case study of a successful partnership between a primary school and leading science institution on a science-related topic. The case study illustrates how collaboration in a program happens in ways that develop and communicate the value of a more authentic science education through the lens of education for conservation in an outreach program from a zoo. The chapter explores a series of themes and insights arising from reflections on the work of Zoos Victoria, and informal settings for science education more broadly. It encourages the people to consider how representative this extended case study is of science institutions in general, and informal settings used for science education near and far, as people pursue the learning objectives. The chapter consistently uses zoos as an example of informal spaces, but reader, do consider other types and examples when engaging with this topic.
