ABSTRACT

Mindfulness is a very effective way of training the people attention. By the people attention in a kindly way they can live more fully in the present, rather than brooding about the past or worrying about the future. In this chapter, the author explores more the value and application of mindfulness in medical sciences. The attention is then placed on natural breathing, not controlled breathing; in particular it is focused at the base of the nose and the nostrils to facilitate feeling the physical sensation of the flow of air going in during inhalation, then going out during exhalation. As a parent-infant psychotherapist working in public services, the author has added a useful and complementary tool to help parents with babies referred for all sorts of difficulties. Mindfulness in relation to themselves and also applied to observing their infant, can open up ways to understanding their baby and to learning about their mutual interactions.
