ABSTRACT

Two lightweight reduced scale model rooms of sandwiched color steel plate were built as comparison experimental chambers. PCM (phase change temperature: 17 °C) encapsulated by aluminum foil bag were attached to the inner wall of the south side of the PCM chamber, and the application effect of PCM in Shanghai winter was tested. The results show that the PCM has a certain attenuation effect on the fluctuation of the air temperature and the average temperature of the inner surface. The degree of its effect depends on the weather. PCM reduce the average heat flow through windows by 5.3% and the average heat flow through walls by 4.35%. With the use of PCM, the temperature fluctuation range decreased, and the percentage of thermal comfort dissatisfaction decreased by about 10%. For grade I thermal comfort time percentage increased by 3.3 on average, and for grade II thermal comfort time percentage increased by 19.0 on average.
