ABSTRACT

The North American Serials Interest Group (NASIG) held its Third Annual Conference at Oglethorpe University, Atlanta, Georgia, from June 4–7, 1988. Our goal this year was to attract more publishers to the conference, and, to this end, emphasis was placed on serials publishing. Panel presentations included: “Current Issues in Copyright”; “Electronic Publishing, the ADONIS Project and SISAC”; and “Fatal Assumptions: Is There Light at the End of the Serials Tunnel?” a panel wherein the relationships between librarian, publisher and vendor were explored. In addition, individual presentations were given on the economics of journal publishing, on the challenge of cataloging computer files and on current developments in the bibliographic control of serials. Eight workshops, covering technical processing, cataloging, pricing and budgeting, and career development topics, were offered and the reports on these sessions follow the papers in this volume. A lively summary session brought the conference to a close. Our sincere thanks to our speakers, workshop leaders and audience who participated so enthusiastically in the discussions.
