This chapter outlines the general aim of this monograph. On the one hand, it seeks to understand how humour is created and conveyed in audiovisual content via punning, culture-specific references, multilingualism and non-verbal text. On the other hand, it aims to comprehend and descriptively analyse how the humour developed via these humorous mechanisms can be transferred interlinguistically and/or intersemiotically. In addition, this study seeks to determine if any appreciable difference in terms of humour can be detected in the ST and TTs under scrutiny. Hence, this introduction briefly explains the rationale and the structure of this book.
