ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the results of our survey experiment and situates the findings within the context of the literature discussed in earlier chapters. Results indicate that voters are more willing to forgive the transgressions of incumbents from their own party, particularly when those voters and candidates are Republican. Both men and women also are less inclined to believe (and punish) sexual harassment allegations made against female candidates. Finally, the chapter explores who was most likely to believe the harassment charges and call for the incumbent’s resignation.
