ABSTRACT
This sets the scene for the book by highlighting why a sociological approach is necessary not to replace a psychological perspective, but to complement and enhance it. It explains the value of looking at death and dying more holistically to take account of how a wide range of sociological factors have a key role to play in shaping how such matters are understood and managed.
