ABSTRACT

Death and dying present major challenges to not only the individuals concerned, but also to wider society, government agencies, voluntary bodies, community groups and so on. This chapter therefore explores the significance of death and dying for social policy and considers the various policy responses to the challenges involved. It considers how health policy, for example, is a very important underpinning of how death and dying issues are handled at a social policy level. The chapter also explores important issues relating to the care of older people and caring for caregivers.
