Corrosion Inhibitors for Metals and Alloys in a Neutral Medium
Seawater, well water, and water containing low chloride ions can be used in cooling water systems. Various types of inhibitors can be used to control the corrosion of pipes carrying water. Various types of inhibitors have been used to control corrosion of metals in a neutral medium. In this connection, mention may be made of organic polymers, melamine derivatives, benzotriazole, drugs, benzimidazole, polyphenols, tolyltriazole, amino acids, phosphonic acids and polyvinyl pyrrolidone. Polarization studies were carried out in a CHI Electrochemical workstation/analyzer, model 660A. A pure sample of sodium potassium tartrate (SPT) and zinc sulfate were used as corrosion inhibitors. The corrosion resistance of L 80 alloy in seawater in the presence of SPT has been evaluated by polarization studies. It is observed that in the presence of SPT, the corrosion resistance of L 80 alloy in seawater increases.
