ABSTRACT

In terms of war poetry Die Aktion is the most important Expressionist group. Though there were many war poets among the contributors to Der Sturm, there were few among the members of the Sturm circle in the narrower sense. Indeed, the Sturm circle was not interested in the war in the way in which Die Aktion was, Herwarth Walden having declared art and politics to have nothing in common. 1 The only outstanding war poet associated with Der Sturm was August Stramm, although Peter Baum was also a gifted poet who produced interesting work ( Schützengrabenverse, 1916) and Kurt Heynicke (Das namenlose Angesicht, 1919) deserves to be remembered.
