ABSTRACT

Dealing with team and group issues in elite soccer remains a constant challenge and therefore exploring and developing effective interventions is an important consideration. Derived from counselling psychology as an approach to foster group communication and group functioning, Personal-Disclosure Mutual-Sharing (PDMS) has recently received research attention in sport psychology and particularly in the context of elite soccer. In this chapter the authors explore the current ideas regarding team issues in soccer along with the theoretical foundations behind PDMS, the extant literature in soccer, the practical applications of PDMS in soccer, and guidelines for practitioners.
