Scoping in degree exclamative sentences *

In this chapter, I examine the scope interactions of the extreme degree operator underlying exclamatives. While it has been argued that degree operators do not scope (Kennedy 1997), I follow the original insight by Gutiérrez-Rexach (2001) that the degree operator of exclamative sentences must take wide scope over other quantifiers. Even though the contexts are difficult to isolate and in some cases different scope readings become indistinguishable (Heim 2000), I review the scope properties of the degree operator in exclamative sentences and show some hints that it may have wide scope.
