ABSTRACT

This chapter summarises each book section, pointing to the way the book draws particularly on stories to highlight the demanding women’s artistic gymnastics (WAG) culture and the role of a range of individuals in reproducing the culture. The concluding remarks also suggest areas where further research would be valuable. These include: the role of the celebrity gymnast in inspiring change, the experiences of gymnasts in high-level non-elite WAG, the contrast between the WAG and men’s artistic gymnastics (MAG) culture, drawing on other theories of cultural change and finally the gendered nature of leadership and governance in WAG. Finally, this chapter notes the value of the book in being a focused collection, utilising stories, which it is hoped will contribute positively to changing WAG for the better.
