ABSTRACT
To investigate this missing thing, this chapter focuses on Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale from 1847 named “The Shadow.” The story recounts the deeds of a learned man who, too, probably sensed that something was missing in his life and therefore decided to travel and explore the hot lands of the south: the lands of passion according to the Romantic tradition.
