ABSTRACT

One hundred and five beginning teachers talked about their experiences when they entered the classroom after their pre-service training. By describing the practical application of a software package for the analysis of qualitative data, this chapter outlines basic features of computer assistance to qualitative research, and demonstrates the contribution of computers to hear the voice behind the noise of a multitude of utterances. Within the theoretical framework of teacher socialization the period of introduction is studied as a process by which new teachers learn and internalize the norms, values, and customs, which characterize the social culture of the school into which they are going to become integrated. Not only qualitative data but even more the methods to collect and to analyze qualitative data represent a multiplicity of perspectives, adapted to the varied ideas and intentions of researchers dealing with unique sites and subjects.
