ABSTRACT

The main issue of this chapter was formulated by Pasinetti as early as 1960. What I have done here was to provide some details and clarify the role of some assumptions. Analysis of the assumptions concerning the technology involved in producing corn was central in a debate during the 1990s. The analysis of assumptions concerning consumption is more recent and is presented here for the first time, though many relevant aspects – but not all – have already been clear for a decade or so. I was also keen to elaborate a graphical representation in the footsteps of Kaldor. In addition, I tried to connect the Pasinetti model to the models developed within the modern theory of endogenous growth.
