ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. In this book, the author explores the inner and intersubjective workplace through applied poetry and the stories behind the poems. The many stressful events that occur in the workplace must be acknowledged to have happened in order to begin to address their underlying organizational dynamics, of which they are often unaware. The book also explores the experience of organizational employees who are transformed into “human resources” and what it is like to be de-selfed in bureaucracies, becoming little more than an anonymous cog in a machine. It addresses the issue of how organization members and consultants together can access and make use of this inner and intersubjective world in their work as revealed in recurrent themes, metaphors, and images. The authors use applied poetry to illustrate and evoke workplace experiences for inspection that become the subject of research and consulting.
