ABSTRACT

Activating potential influences behaviors and habits, thereby establishing the company’s culture. Muller Engineering is a successful consulting civil engineering company with long-term ownership guiding the company through changes in public infrastructure funding, consumer behavior, and technology. In 2018, USA Today published “Bad Reputation: America’s Top 20 Most Hated Companies.” Receiving first place on the list was Equifax who “successfully” beat out companies like Wells Fargo, Spirit Airlines, and Comcast. In preparation for the Muller Engineering strategy retreat, the executives copied their existing mission statement and core values and put them into the Culture block of the Strategy Whiteboard. Vision and mission statements are a product of the 1990s and companies’ desire to make work more meaningful. In the Blendification System, potential becomes the motivation to establish a culture that drives strategy and execution. Organizations that enjoy enduring success understand that their culture sets the long-term motivational direction.
