ABSTRACT

Chapter 10, ‘General Conclusion’, draws together the threads running through the book and tries to answer the main questions, insofar as that has been made possible: what exactly is Eurocentrism? How does it function? How important is it? What is its history? Is it still important, in a now ‘globalized’ world? And is there anything to be done about it? The conclusion is drawn to the effect that despite globalization, Eurocentrism, now semi-merged into ‘West-o-centrism’, is still heavily embedded in the academy across a wide range of disciplines, and is still crucially important in knowledge production. Its hegemony is still powerful, and it is essential that we work to make known its mechanisms and effects around the world.
