ABSTRACT

In this article, adsorption mechanism of heavy metal(copper) from aqueous solution onto nano-montmorillonite was investigated. The effect of several operational parameters such as adsorbent dosage, pH, agitation speed and temperature was studied. The laboratory experiments showed that the copper(Cu2+) adsorption was dependent on adsorbent dosage, pH and temperature. And also equilibrium isotherms were analyzed by Langmuir, Freundlich and Temkin adsorption models. It was observed that the equilibrium data fitted well with the Freundlich adsorption model. In addition, the adsorption capacity, Q0, was calculated 37.04 mg.g-1 for adsorption of copper on nano-montmorillonte. Thermodynamic parameters suggest that the adsorption of Cu2+ on nano-montmorillonite is spontaneous and endothermic.
