ABSTRACT

As the “decision-makers of tomorrow”, today’s children and adolescents will decide how valuable nature and the environment are to society, and how future environmental policy and, consequently, environmental protection measures will be shaped. However, according to teachers and parents, adolescents are increasingly alienating themselves from their natural environment and spending more of their time in social media. With the help of project work, which addresses their interests such as media and technology, their interest in environment and environmental protection can be developed and at the same time their knowledge in this field can be increased. This article outlines exemplarily how such project work should be designed and demonstrates that nature conservation and environmental protection can also be practically experienced by children and young people at school and have a lasting impact on them. After all, environmental protection is of interest to all of us.
