ABSTRACT

In Chapter 1, the Madsen family and Clifford’s background and family upbringing are discussed, in an endeavor to lay a foundation for Clifford’s values and interest in education. His father, Charles Henry Madsen, Sr., was a school principal. His mother, Lenora Roberts Kimball Madsen, was a school teacher. Clifford was born and raised in Price, Utah, and had 11 siblings. He met Mary Marakis in high school and married her shortly after graduation. They had three children together-Sitka, Cort, and Katia-all of whom went on to earn doctoral degrees in their chosen fields.
