ABSTRACT

Chapter 2 references Clifford’s journey in music from early childhood piano lessons to majoring in music in college. His first elementary and junior high school band teacher was Edgar “Toot” Williams, who recognized Clifford’s musical talent quickly. Clifford became the drum major of his sixth-grade band. During his high school years, Clifford’s parents moved to Bountiful, Utah. Clifford convinced them to let him stay in Price with his mother’s best friend and her husband, who worked in a mortuary. He worked sundry jobs to help support himself. Alvin Wardle was his high school band director and a very special mentor. Al remains an inspirational figure in Clifford’s life. Through Carbon College, then Brigham Young University, Clifford cemented his commitment to music study.
