ABSTRACT

In this chapter, based on the findings of Holocaust research, we shall summarize the characteristics of first-generation transgenerational trauma; the alterations in the way the first generation suffering the trauma relate to the world; the loss of basic trust; the peculiarities of their perception of time and space; changes in the ability to contain and the capacity to symbolize; the characteristics of memory, mourning, and narrative; the role of fantasy; and special characteristics of relationships.
