ABSTRACT
Jane Welsh Carlyle (1801–1866) was the Scottish wife of the sage Thomas Carlyle and is chiefly known through her letters which she wrote in enormous numbers. She lived in Cheyne Walk, Chelsea and wrote copiously to her husband whenever they were apart.
