ABSTRACT
Henrik Ibsen (1828–1906) was a Norwegian dramatist whose most famous plays dealt with social and psychological problems and were extremely advanced for their day. (Peer Gynt, 1866, is however, a lyrical drama). Ibsen was particularly eager to tear down the shams and conventions which prevented women from being themselves.
