ABSTRACT
Thomas Hardy (1840–1928) was born the son of a builder in Dorchester and was an architect in his youth. Most of his works are set in nineteenth century ‘Wessex’ (Dorset and its adjoining counties). Hardy also wrote a long epic poem ‘The Dynasts’ and was a very great lyric poet.
