ABSTRACT

If men remain in the service for a lengthened period, a certain proportion of them must be allowed to marry as heretofore. This brings us to the question of married soldiers. There is no subject in connection with the army that more urgently needs reform than the position of these men and their wives. Soldiers are allowed to marry, subject to the approval of their commanding officer, at the rate of ten per cent. This is an indulgence that is reserved for good men. Let us see what it is.
